A Comprehensive Comparison Guide to Mobile Advertising Networks (Infographic)

A Guide for Brands, Publishers & Game Developers Something we’ve expected for some time now, online advertising spending has just surpassed newspaper advertising spending.  But don’t expect online advertising to maintain its lead for long.  By all accounts mobile will soon surpass online advertising spend due to the sheer numbers of App/internet enabled mobile phones that are appearing worldwide. While the matrix is comprehensive, ...

The 3+ Reasons Why Dan Pink’s Compensation & Motivation Advice is Bullsh*t

(cross posted at SeekingAlpha and CloudAve) When I worked for Autodesk from the mid to late 1990’s the company was routinely recognized as having one of the best corporate cultures.  Dogs allowed at work, unlimited free soft drinks, 6 week paid sabbaticals, flexible work hours, plenty of autonomy, mastery and purpose.  But then something happened.  Thousands of DotCom companies started hiring the best people from the best ...

San Francisco: Confessions of a Bystander (part 1)

As I make my way up to the Bay Area this week for the Enterprise 2.0 conference I am reflecting on my days living in its crown jewel – the City of San Francisco.  Those that haven’t lived there (but may want to) usually come around to ask about my experience and attitude about the city.   This article and its follow up are for them.   I had lived in the City for about a month before I realized that I was indeed just a ...

Sales 2.0: The Swiss Army Knife Needs to be Expanded

Normally I leave the sales punditry to those trying to sell telemarketing services or the next greatest sales methodology.  At times these sales to Sales pitches feel like the latest management fads I so often witnessed while working at A.T. Kearney.   But occasionally a “sales" strategy” article motivates me to act. As he often does, Mark Suster wrote a very intriguing article on what early stage companies need to scale their sales ...

Adobe and Hewlett Packard add Contextual Product Ads in Documentation Search

A new and important trend is emerging amongst the best of the documentation and eLearning sites.  Both Adobe and HP are delivering in product contextual ads based on user search queries.  While Google has been doing this for some time, they don’t control corporate ads on corporate search sites.  It’s important because technical documentation has always been seen as a necessary cost of doing business.  With contextual product ...

FaceBook Like in the Real World

Thought I’d share this amazing idea centered around offline “LIKE”.  The concept involves placing RFID bands around people’s wrists and using them to LIKE activities in the real world.  Similar to how it’s done online, the technology instantly creates a LIKE moment on a user’s Facebook page.   Brilliant.  Hope to see this technology go mainstream in 2 or 3 years. What do you think? ...

What Every CMO Needs to Know about Content Strategy

I recently concluded a very detailed study of the most influential technical documentation sites of 2010 to determine what made them influential.  What I discovered transcended documentation to include all product and service related content. Today there are companies that using content in strategic ways that are not being discussed for competitive reasons.  These companies understand the concept of social proof and how it impacts buying decisions ...

SeekOmega Updates – Launch!

MindTouch has been busy preparing for the launch of a revolutionary new product so I have been updating this site less.  That will change soon.  If you notice however, I’ve moved to Wordpress to take advantage of a number of features that were missing on the blogger platform. A few updates to report. I somehow won the AIIM Enterprise 2.0 RFP award thanks to all who voted.  I’ve also been selected to be one of the Keynotes for LavaCon San Diego ...

Enterprise 2.0 Principles for Technical Documentation

Guest Post by Anne Gentle Meeting business goals with emergent social software, this is Enterprise 2.0. As a technical writer, do you doubt that Enterprise 2.0 can happen where you work? Consider this. Even the most influential and gate-keeping newspapers now allow comments alongside their strictly styled, investigated, and copy-edited content. A browser sidebar from Google called Sidewiki enables annotation on any page on the entire web. Traditional ...

Is Your Technical Communication Career a Dead End?

“You’re position in the company is of little value,” he said indifferently neither in attempt to injure or blame but merely in the tone of stating a situational fact as he’d say to another man, ‘you'll always be worthless you can't help it. It's in your blood.’  Or to be more scientific, your conditioned that way. The role of Technical Communicator, Product Content Creator, Usability Specialists, etc. haven’t always been the fastest path ...
